Transmission Fluid Cooler Kits Prevent Costly Repairs

Transmission service can be a very expensive repair job and leave you without your transportation for days. The truth is, transmission service is one of the most expensive repairs people have to shell out for and it is all too common for transmissions to become damaged by overheating.

Unlike many car repairs, transmission damage from overheating is easily preventable. An aftermarket cooler kit can keep your transmission cool under stress and extend the life of the unit as well.

What Does a Cooler Kit Do?

The radiator in your engine bay works by running coolant through your engine to keep it cool and a transmission cooler kit works in the same way just on a smaller scale. When your transmission is under duress, it can begin to heat up rapidly and eventually become so hot that the transmission fluid burns off.

If your transmission fluid burns off the internal components will quickly start to break down, causing your car to slip gears, fail to shift, and eventually fail entirely. A cooler kit will allow your transmission to work harder without burning off fluid, keeping it safe from damage.

Why Do I Need a Cooler Kit?

Light trucks often come with a dealer towing package that includes a cooler kit. If you don't have that package, you may come to find that your truck isn't capable of towing as much weight as far as you would like before the transmission overheats.

Without a cooler kit, it is a risky move to tow heavy loads or pull uphill for too long. A cooler kit will increase the amount of time your transmission can handle a heavy load or let you work in poor traction longer without risk of overheating.

Avoid Expensive Breakdowns

Trucks aside, cooler kits are also a great option for cars as well. Transmissions burn out all the time in cars due to uphill driving or spinning the wheels in poor traction.

If you lose traction in mud, you can quickly damage a transmission by spinning the wheels in an attempt to free yourself. A transmission shop can quickly install an aftermarket cooler kits for relatively cheap and prevent you from burning out your transmission and having to spend substantially more to replace it.
