how can the filtre screen on the oil pump cause a connecting rod to break off a piston?
gm pick 1980 v8 small block engine. only has 1000kms. new crate engine
If the filter screen is clogged, it will restrict or even completely cut off oil flow to the engine. This can cause spun bearings, which in worst case scenarios, will cause the connecting rod to seize on the crankshaft and break free of the piston. More likely than not, however, if your oil screen is your culprit, it probably came loose from your pickup tube and lodged somewhere in the cylinder wall or the crankshaft, causing the failure.
